'I want to be independent': Lorde reveals why she rejected Katy Perry's invitation to support her on Prismatic world tour.

Opening for Katy Perry on her world tour would be a dream come true for many artists but not Lorde.

The precocious 17-year-old singer – who shot to fame with her Grammy Award winning hit Royals last year – turned down an invitation to support Katy on her Prismatic world tour in order to headline her own smaller shows. 

She told Australia's KIIS 106.5:  'I'm just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent.

'So I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else. Which I think is fair enough.'

Lorde added that she wants to establish herself as an artist before supporting anyone else. 

She said: 'In the really early stages of an artist's career, it's important for them to establish themselves for themselves.'

Lorde insisted her rejection wasn’t anything to do with Katy or her music but merely wanted to be independent. 

It was recently revealed that her debut album Pure Heroine has sold over one million copies, making it the first debut by a female singer since Adele's 19 to reach the milestone.

It's been quite the year for the teenage singer, with Lorde picking up two Grammys and the BRIT Award for Best International Female Solo Artist since shooting to fame. 

Bruce Springsteen recently covered royals during a concert in New Zealand and Lorde admitted it made her cry. 

She said: 'My Twitter went mental. Everyone in New Zealand was like 'You can't believe what just happened!' It was so exciting. It was the highest honour. He's such an incredible songwriter. I got a little teary. It was very cool. '

Meanwhile, it didn't take Katy long to find replacements with Icona Pop and Kacey Musgraves set to join her on the road.

After topping the Official Singles Chart with Clean Bandit a few weeks ago, Jess Glynne looks set to do it all over again with Route 94’s My Love.

British DJ and producer Route 94 looks set to knock Pharrell off the top of the Official Singles Chart on Sunday to claim his first ever Number 1 with My Love, according to today’s Official Chart Update.

My Love will be the Official Chart debut of 20 year old dance producer Route 94, the deep house anthem whistles in the talents of singer/songwriter Jess Glynne and takes pole position as the highest new entry midweek. Jess Glynnealso lent her seemingly invincible guest vocals to Clean Bandit’s massive selling chart topper, Rather Be, earlier this year, topping the Official Singles Chart for four consecutive weeks, and holds the record for the fastest selling single of 2014 so far.

My Love leads the singles race today, and is currently outselling Pharrell’s Happy (Number 2) by more than two copies to one.

Clean Bandit’s Rather Be is holding firm at Number 3 today, while BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice winner Sam Smith is down two places to Number 4 with Money On My Mind, and A Great Big World’s Say Something FT Christina Aguilera is a non-mover at Number 5.

When the new King of Pop Pharrell William's took to the stage at the Future Music Festival on Sunday - the audience were as Happy with his physique as they were with his performance.

Playing his smash hit to the 45,000 strong crowd in Melbourne, he looked pretty pleased with himself as he flashed his killer abs to fans while headlining at the Flemington Racecourse gig

The 40-year-old pulled up his white T-shirt to reveal his super-toned physique and washboard stomach, while staring intensely at his ecstatic fans. 

With his trademark black buffalo hat firmly in place, the uber producer gave viewers an adulterated look at his hot body, lifting his top to expose his taught pecks.

Wearing a pair of cut off Khaki shorts that showed off his heavily inked calves, a white T-shirt, sneakers and beaded necklaces, he looked effortlessly hip performing under the Australian sun, as he belted out an array of his smash hits.

Arriving on stage at 4pm, the headliner performed for just 30 minutes, wowing the crowd as he romped through his epic musical collection including Frontin', Lapdance, and She Wants to Move.

He also showcased the hits he has written for other people - Snoop Dogg's Beautiful, Gwen Stefani's Hollaback and Nelly's Hot in Herre.

William's then gave the audience a rendition of Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky,  before finishing up with his catchy, summer anthem Happy.

The singer songwriter was joined by stellar acts such as Macklemore and Lewis, Phoenix, Deadmau5, Rudimental and Cut Copy at the electronic music festival. 

After more than a decade of composing hits the musician has finally hit the stratosphere with his recent bout of musical hits, being nominated for an Oscar and receiving a slew of awards at this year's Grammy's.

The singer is touring Down Under as part of his promotion for his new album GIRL - he told breakfast TV show Sunrise this week that he'd love to work with Lorde, Prince and Katy Perry.

The star who has more than 22 years experience, also thanked his fans for his recent success, saying: 'I continue to make songs and I think I’m getting a little better, I’m trying my best.

'It’s the people, ultimately at the end of the day, that have lifted me as high as it is right now.

'I’ve never seen these heights before.'

A host of celebrities turned out for the Victorian event including AFL footballer Josh Gibson and his girlfriend Renee Bargh, footballer Harry Kewell with his wife, actress Sheree Murphy and comedian Chris Lilley.

Three years after releasing their ballad ‘Say Something’, New York duo ‘A Great Big World’ struck gold when pop diva Christina Aguilera happened upon the song and asked if she could contribute to it.

The duo went on to perform the single with her on her show The Voice, launching it up the charts and turning it into a platinum-selling hit.

Band member Ian Axel said working with Aguilera was a great experience: “She’s super professional when she’s working, and she’s really on – she’s in the moment – and it was just a really cool experience.”

“But she was really respectful and down to earth at the same time. We asked her if she wanted to take a verse in the song and do more embellishments vocally and she was like ‘I just want to sing this, I want my voice to be a texture’, and we had never heard her sing like that. We think it’s the most amazing, the most powerful thing.”

Band member Chad Vaccarino explained how they named it: “We have a song called ‘Cheer Up’ and the first line of that song is ‘It’s a great big world and there’s no need to cry’. And when we were trying to pick a band name, we decided to go to the lyrics of our songs.”

“And that one hit it,” added Ian Axel.

“It was positive,” said Vaccarino. “It feels very fitting for what we’re all about.”

A Great Big World’s debut album ‘Is There Anybody Out There?’ is out now. The band starts its world tour in March, with concerts scheduled across the US, the UK and Japan.
