  • "Counting Stars"
    [Chorus]
Lately I been, I been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard
    Said no more counting dollars
    We'll be counting stars
    Yeah, we'll be counting star

    [Verse 1]
    I see this life
    Like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
In my face is flashing signs
Seek it out and ye shall find

Old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
And I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told

    I feel something so right
    By doing the wrong thing
And I feel something so wrong
    By doing the right thing
    I couldn't lie, couldn't lie, couldn't lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

    [Chorus]
Lately I been, I been losing sleep (hey!)
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard (hey!)
    Said no more counting dollars
    We'll be counting stars
Lately I been, I been losing sleep (hey!)
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard (hey!)
    Said no more counting dollars
We'll be, we'll be counting stars

    [Verse 2]
    I feel the love
    And I feel it burn
    Down this river every turn
Hope is our four letter word
    Make that money
    Watch it burn

Old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
And I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told

And I feel something so wrong
    By doing the right thing
    I couldn't lie, couldn't lie, couldn't lie
Everything that drowns me makes me wanna fly

    [Chorus]
Lately I been, I been losing sleep (hey!)
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard
    Said no more counting dollars
    We'll be counting stars
Lately I been, I been losing sleep (hey!)
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard (hey!)
    Said no more counting dollars
We'll be, we'll be counting stars

    Oh, oh, oh.

    [Bridge 4x:]
    Take that money
    Watch it burn
    Sing in the river
    The lessons I learned

Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

    [Chorus]
Lately I been, I been losing sleep (hey!)
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard (hey!)
    Said no more counting dollars
    We'll be counting stars
Lately I been, I been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I been, I been prayin' hard
    Said no more counting dollars
We'll be, we'll be counting stars

    [Outro 4x:]
    Take that money
    Watch it burn
    Sing in the river
    The lessons I learned

    News:

A new OneRepublic song is coming our way in a week, and there’s no way to stop it! That’s what band’s frontman Ryan Tedder announced to their fans in Amsterdam during a concert as part of the European leg of OneRepublic’s “Native” tour on Monday (March 3).

Ryan basically said that this “new song” was recorded around the same time “Counting Stars”, but that it didn’t make it onto “Native” because he just couldn’t figure out the perfect chorus and therefore finish the track, so it was “pushed to the side”. This, until one month ago, when another OR member reminded Ryan about the track. He then finally got the chorus right, and mastered the new yet-untitled song.
No official word yet on whether this will be a brand new OFFICIAL single, or if it’s just a “Native” outtake OneRepublic want to give fans as a “thank you” for the amazing era they’ve had with “Native”. We’ll see. One thing if for sure though, if it was recorded around the time they did "Counting Stars", it's going to be an incredible song!
